Buy the room 1.0 was launched just in time for Back to School season. The initial design was pushed out quickly without too much time to design in order to meet timeline. A followup was requested to provide a more robust solution to the experience of buying an entire set of products. My first step in designing was to construct 2 product personas representing the two primary types of shoppers who shop the internet these days and design accordingly. I then designed subsequently based on the 2 personas developed.
Matt, the first persona I designed for, tends to value efficiency and convenience above all else. He does not love to shop and will buy in bulk if the recommendation is right.
Designing for matt
Designing for Matt means primarily designing controls that allows for easy multi select en bulk. We first started with designing mobile in mind as buying multiple item on mobile is some of the worst interactions around. This design also brings common variance up to the top level, so users don’t have to individually choose variance for every single product.
